Sea turtles lay their eggs on beaches, and hatchlings use moonlight’s reflection on water to get to the ocean. But bright lights from beach front hotels, parks, and roads lure hatchlings in the wrong direction. To prevent hatchlings from being run over by cars, eaten by predators, or using up precious energy, many beachfront communities have changed their lights to be sea-turtle friendly.
