In addition to better characterizing the visual nature of a species, blackwater photography reveals behaviors never before witnessed. 


“During the black water dives we see filefishes hanging onto gelatinous zooplankton, in this case a Dotterel Filefish, Aluterus heudelotii, hanging onto a Hydromedusa. The reason for this behavior is unknown.”- Linda Ianniello
