Fish Feeding in Seagrass

Neptune grass (Posidonia oceanica) is an ancient seagrass that is unique to the Mediterranean Sea. It is incredibly slow-growing; so slow that scientists estimate one large meadow that is 9.3 miles (15 km) wide has been growing for thousands, and maybe tens of thousands, of years. Neptune grass populations are declining rapidly from pollution flowing into the Mediterranean, and its slow growth rate will make recovery difficult. Where the grass still survives, biodiversity is high, with over 700 species recorded per square meter including these Sardinella fish.
