Mangroves Moving To Their Edge

Newly established black mangrove (Avicennia germinans) in a field of salt marsh (Spartina alterniflora and Batis maritima) in the Guana Tolomato Matanzas National Estuarine Research Reserve in Florida. This area is near the northern limit of mangroves in the state. Mangroves have been expanding near their northern limit in Florida and the expansion is linked to a reduction in the frequency of extreme cold events along the Florida coastline.
