Replica of an Ainu Fish Skin Robe

A blue, silver, and black fish skin robe displayed hanging from a rod. The robe is created from multiple fish skin sewn together and dyed with indigo.

This robe is a replica Ainu fish skin robe, made from the traditional indigenous material, but printed with the Japanese Katazome technique. Ir was designed by Elisa Palomino-Perez, was made in collaboration with Haute Couture seamstress Vanna Bellini and Indigo master Takayuki Ishii.
