Ocean Views Award Winners, 2011

Thanks to a passionate group of fearless ocean photographers, you can stare-down a yellow-mouth moray eel, a sperm whale, and a harlequin shrimp. These are just three of the subjects in the 2011 Nature's Best Photography Ocean Views Contest. Like the animals they captured with their cameras, the photographers spanned the globe. Use the arrows below to view this slideshow and also check out a slideshow of winners from 2010.

If you're in Washington, D.C., you can see more winners of the Nature's Best Photography Awards at the Smithsonian's National Museum of Natural History through September 25, 2011.

What a spectacular photo. Of this group this is my favorite photo. All of the photos in the contest are fantastic and in their own rights all winners. I applaud the contest and the photos. The more we learn and can appreciate our oceans the more people will want to protect them and keep them healthy.

my favorite is the green turtle because its shell is so beautiful

These pictures are all breathtaking, almost unreal. It is amazing to see these pictures and feel like you were actually there. What an accomplishment for the photographers.
