Porcelain Crab and Anemone

Porcelain crab on anemone at Pescador Island, Cebu, Philippines.

Much like the Macro 1st place photograph, this animal also resides inside anemones. The porcelain crab (Neopetrolisthes maculatus) is a very small crab, with a colorful shell. It lives in anemones in the Indo-Pacific region. The crab, or family of crabs, that live in and around their anemone have been known to fiercely defend their anemone from potential invaders. They use long bristles around their mouths to catch small animals floating in the water around them.
