Florida Manatees

Wisconsin,
United States
With all the motor boat injuries done to these passive, intelligent, gentle, beasts, we can only hope or children will be able to see the manatee swim in this vanishing world.
United States
Manatee numbers are so low and the population is at such a risk due to recreational activities, which is ridiculous. Not a very complicated problem, but one that shows how man's greed threatens a species survival.
Florida,
United States
Manatees are endangered.
Massachusetts,

Manatees are endearing, primitive, gentle, mesmerizing to watch. Basically defenseless, they tug us back to our elemental need to protect and find connection to the waters of our planet.

The Florida Manatees photo represents a vanishing world because it is a direct consequence from humans taking over the world too much.
Maryland,
United States
All of the images are great representations of a vanishing world, and the photography is excellent. However, the image of the manatee caught my eye, because of its human like face that looks so sad. I can empathize with this face. Plus the other images are of creatures that are being over-fished or suffering from climate change, and people tend to consider these issues as out of their control. However, the pollution and encroachment of the general population on the manatee may resonate as an issue of personal responsibility towards the environment.

The manatee's prehistoric physical attributes seem otherworldly, for sure, but it's also their easy-going attitude that contrasts so starkly with modern society. That really makes them stand apart from the rest and from our daily world. -Cory B.
Australia
A rare mammal, hardly seen.

Visit Florida. See manatees. They are really afraid of boats. Even row boats. See a lot of them with scars on there backs.
California,
United States
They are being hit by boats. Even if someone is skeptical about humans role in climate change, this at least, everyone can see who's at fault -and then make changes for the better, hopefully!
Texas,
United States
The manatee looks sad and it is sad what is happening to the oceans.
Texas,
United States
Because it looks sad
New York,

I choose Florida manatees because manatees are my favorite animal and they're endangered.
Because it draws an emotional response from the audience.
Maryland,
United States
Human intervention harming vanishing manatees.
Canada
The animal seems old and tired
Illinois,
United States
To lose a gentle giant in this world is to lose our ability to feel.
Pennsylvania,
United States
The poor manatee looks so sad.

Manatees are the ultimate in defenseless animals. They are subjected to our decisions, as careless or thoughtful as they may be. As animals their lives lack drama other than what we inflict on them. Let the gentle sea cows live in the peace they deserve. They did not need to defend themselves until humans came in to ruin their habitats.

That manatee is so sweet!
